How to Wash a Dog Bed So It Lasts for Years

Proper care can extend the life of a dog bed by years. The process is simple, but a few details make all the difference.

How often to wash it Wash the cover once every three to four weeks. For dogs that go outside in all weathers, or if someone in your household has allergies, every two weeks is preferable.

Before washing Vacuum hair from the surface and folds — wet fur can form dense clumps in the washing machine and block the filter. Close the zip to prevent it from catching on the drum.

Wash cycle Wash separately at 30 °C on a delicate cycle. Use liquid detergent without fabric softener or bleach. Fabric softener reduces water resistance and leaves behind a fragrance that dogs may find far more unpleasant than we do.

Drying Do not tumble-dry or place the cover on a radiator. Lay it flat or hang it up to air-dry. Do not put it back on until it is completely dry — moisture trapped in the filling is the most common cause of unpleasant odours.

The inner core The foam core should not be washed. Clean any marks with a damp cloth and soapy water, then allow it to dry. This is why a spare cover is well worth having — your dog will not have to wait for the first one to dry.
