Choosing a dog bed for small, medium and large breeds

A dog's requirements change disproportionately as their weight increases. A bed that works perfectly well for a 10 kg dog may fail within a few months under a 30 kg dog.

Up to 10 kg Small breeds appreciate raised edges and soft filling. Fibre filling is a suitable choice in this category. Warmth and a sense of security matter more than the thickness of the core — thin-coated breeds often love to burrow.

10 to 25 kg This is a transitional category. We recommend a 6 to 8 cm foam core with a smooth cover. Most dogs in this weight range alternate between sleeping positions, so a low bolster on three sides works particularly well.

Over 25 kg Choose highly resilient foam at least 8 to 10 cm thick, a flat sleeping surface, strong seams and a non-slip base. Fibre filling is not suitable for dogs in this category — it will flatten within six months.

Giant breeds over 45 kg Allow for an internal length of 120 cm or more and choose a higher-density core. Ease of access is important too: a low entry makes it easier for your dog to lie down.
